- This utility will allow users of IBM-AT and compatables
- to examine and edit any sector on their floppy drives.
- There are many other utilities that do this very thing
- but I could not find any that worked on the 1.2 megabyte
- high density drives. This utility was written specificly
- for the 80 track high density drive. It will, however,
- work for the standard 360K floppy with minor
- inconveniences.
-
- The main menu presents you with a choice of Display,
- Modify, or Quit. If you choose either Display or Modify
- you will be prompted for the Drive, Head, Track, and
- Sector you wish to work with. In the display mode the
- left side of the screen will show any valid ascii
- characters and the right side of the screen will show the
- hexidecimal values of each byte for that sector. You may
- then page to either the next sector or the previous
- sector with the up and down arrows. This is where the
- minor inconvenience with 360K drives appears. If you try
- to step past Track 39 or Sector 9 you will get a read
- error and go back to the main menu. In the modify mode
- the screen only displays the hexidecimal values and a
- menu at the bottom of the screen presents you with a
- choice of Change a byte, Write sector to disk, or Quit.
- If you select Change you will be prompted for the
- relative position and the new value of the byte to be
- changed. This is only changed on the screen and you may
- continue to change bytes or quit. The disk is only
- altered when you select Write, at that time the sector AS
- DISPLAYED ON SCREEN is written to the disk. Thats all,
- enjoy!
